Guided Tours and Walks in Mani

During your stay, you can take part in walks and tours to ancient temples of the classical period, Byzantine churches and isolated monasteries. Most guides to the Peloponnese don't know these places. The farm lies beside the old footpath of Marathea, an ideal starting point for short and long walks.
Two great mountain ranges, the Tayetos and Parnon, run through the landscape of Lakonia in which Marathea lies. The paths on these mountains offer unlimited opportunities for hiking. In their gorges you will find waterfalls and superb rock formations. These gorges are an unforgettable experience for the walker. The feeling that you follow the routes of the ancient Greeks reminds you of myths and the ancient gods.
The Mani, the middle peninsula in the extreme south of the Peloponnese, is a fascinating landscape for hikers. There are innumerable foot paths in the plains, valleys and moutains.
While walking you come
in contact with several elements of Greek culture. At each turning
of the path suddenly Byzantine churches with frescos can appear,
remains of Doric temples or prehistoric sites.
Marathea farm lies next to the old "rebel" path of the
village, an ideal departure point for making short or longer hikes.
In the surroundings of Marathea there are countless paths. The
Mani will make you want to explore with all your senses, walking
between olive trees, berry bushes, fennel and thyme.
You can also go on your own hikes. On site you can get information
on the foot paths. The excursions are led by T. Sarelakos. He loves
the area and is an expert on the Peloponnese. He has hiked in the
Andes, the Himalayas, the Atlas mountains, the Alps, in Madagascar
and on mount Kenya.
